Advanced Technical Theatre -Honors
Course Syllabus

OBJECTIVES:
1. Students will demonstrate the correct and safe
use of the tools, instruments, and equipment of the theatre.
2. Students will demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of stagecraft
techniques, lighting techniques, costuming, and publicity.
3. Students will employ their technical skills in the construction of
scenery, props, costumes, sound effects, and a publicity campaign.
4. Students will analyze a script and create a design based on that script
analysis.
5. Students will use computer-aided drafting (CAD) to design sets, lights,
costumes, and props.
6. Students will create a design portfolio.
7. Students will oversee all technical support for special events.
GRADING:
1/4 PARTICIPATION
Students will be expected to participate in all
class activities. Much of the class work will be done during the class
meeting time. Students are expected to use that time efficiently and to make
use of the availability of the instructor for individual attention. A grade
will be assigned each week.
1/4 PROJECTS
Students will be graded for each project completed.
Consideration will be given to complexity, quantity, and quality. Time
limits will be assigned for all projects. Students are expected to complete
projects within the time frame assigned during their class meeting times or
at other times that the facility is available.
1/4 PRODUCTION WORK
Students must work on the technical crew of all
productions
1/4 SPECIAL EVENTS
Technical Theatre II students will operate all
technical aspects of the theatre for 2003 - 2004. Each student is required
to work three special events. Although there is no specific number of hours
required, students will be evaluated based on objectives met.
SAFETY: Because of dangers
involved in using some of the power tools, students are expected to follow
all safety rules and behave in a mature and responsible manner.
I understand the requirements of the Technical
Theatre Arts Class and agree to follow all the rules for working backstage
for my own safety and the safety of others.
